Los Angeles Air Force Base

The Los Angeles AFB, located in El Segundo, California is a USA Air Force Base. The near-by city of El Segundo offers great attractions to local people, as it has the famous Manhattan Beach just north of the town. Some other attractions relate to Fort MacArthur, the Pacific Crest and Pacific Heights, all of them featuring marvelous breathtaking scenery. The base, commanded by Lt. General Michael Hamel, serves as training for the Air Forces. Los Angeles AFB is home to the 61st Air Base Wing unit.

The size of the base is medium and it has a number of 1,575 troops garrisoned. The primary mission of the base, as described by the Commander is to "Deliver unrivaled space and missile systems to the joint war fighter and the US nation".

The Los Angeles AFB was built between February 1963 and the 10th of April 1964 and was named after one of the local metropolitan cities, Los Angeles. Another surrounding city is San Pedro. The housing facilities are also related to San Pedro, because the housing office is in Building 56 of Fort MacArthur, a famous historical site. Los Angeles AFB staff are honored by coming visitors. You are also spoilt for choice in terms of choosing a school for your children. There are many private and state schools, at least one per community.

The base plays an important role as it trains soldiers in the field of space and missiles. Los Angeles AFB is a Center of Excellence in this respect. It has the standard aircraft facilities and many F-80s and state-of-the-art space rockets. The total number of people at the base is approximately 3,000.

The Los Angeles AFB has recently received press on the 2nd of November 2007 on the occasion that the SMC Commander has won the Alumni of the Year Award. The importance of this base has stayed the same throughout its existence, that of training an elite. Recently, LA AFB has joined a six-week combined Federal Campaign Training Project, which lasts until the 6th of December 2007. The logo for Los Angeles AFB stands for knowledge and evolution – a rocket conquering the space.
